She grew up as a child who preferred to be alone. Her friends consisted of the animals and flowers of the country. Throughout her life, she would catch random thoughts and dreams on scraps of paper...all placed in various boxes and envelopes scattered throughout her Victorian home.
North Carolina novelist, Lee Smith, took some of Lou's handwritten stories back to Chapel Hill with her, had them typed and sent them to the LSU press. Seven stories were selected and published under the title Sweet Hollow (LSU Press, 1984) just before Lou's seventy-first birthday.
She still has many unpublished works of wit, wisdom, and humor all handwritten on scraps of paper. A few of which appear on EVA as her "Nits of a Louse".
Today, her writings are focusing on the space age. She is striving to create an understanding of space for the "everyday person".
EVA would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Lou for sharing her work with us in order that we can make it available online.
