"91st Day" Subcommittee

 

MINUTES

 

23 July 1997 7:30 P. M.

 

The scheduled meeting of the Electronic Village of Abingdon "91st Day" Subcommittee held in the Town of Abingdon Municipal Building was opened by Chairman F. H. Moore, Jr. There were seven members present. These included:

The minutes of the 25 June 1997 meeting were approved as presented.

Ray Millsap reported for the Contents Committee about their last meeting. Coni Patrick had agreed to serve as Webmaster. They discussed creating a virtual tour of Abingdon based on the "Walking Tour" brochure. Also discussed, briefly, were linking with Emory & Henry College, an update of the Barter Theatre pages, the need to notify the Webmaster before creating a link to the EVA pages, and the fact that links from objectionable pages would not be appreciated. There was a great deal of interest in the Law Library idea. Steve Galyean stated that they Contents Committee wished to have a column in one of the weekly newspapers to keep the public informed of EVA progress.

Daveena Sexton reported on a summary of the 11 July meeting for the purpose of creating some new shared resources over the EVA network.

David Taverner reported that the Phase 3 EVA extension to the west along Plumb Alley would take place in about two more weeks. There followed some discussion of potential customers along this route including Honaker Publications, Doris Shuman, the Copeland, Molinary & Beiger law firm and others on the western route.

Dr. Moore undertook to read and discuss a recent letter received from John Brooks of Sprint in regard to the EVA project. He also reported that the matter of legislation may be taken up again in the next term of the legislature with the Virginia Municipal League adding some impetus to the passage of enabling legislation.

The next meeting of the EVA 91st Day Subcommittee will be held at 7:30 P. M. on 27 August 1997 at the Municipal Building.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
