electronic village of abingdon "91st Day" Subcommittee MINUTES 15 December 1997 12:00 Noon The scheduled meeting of the Electronic Village of Abingdon "91st Day" Subcommittee held in the Johnston Memorial Hospital Cafeteria was opened by Dr. F. H. Moore. There were eight members present. These included:
The minutes of the 26 November 1997 meeting were approved as presented. Dr. Moore apologized for the change in the meeting date from 17 December to 15 December, but explained that this was one of the few dates that the meeting room was available. New connections to the Phase 3 fiber project were again the first topic of discussion. The connection for Berkana Graphics (Eric Schuler) at the Honaker Building on Main Street has been made. Copeland, Molinary & Beiger, Callebs Realty. Jessee & Read and EMS applications are being held by Sprint pending arrival of materials so that enough fiber will be on hand to do all of them at one time, since they all connect into the same splice box. No final word has been heard on the status of the connection to Business Communications. The Big Brothers - Big Sisters project was discussed with Jay Cox. It was decided that this service needed a new drop instead of trying to splice it into the next building. Al Bradley noted that a request had been made from the 91st Day Committee to Sprint to evaluate connecting the Hospital into the EVA system by way of Court Street to the Central Office. Also under review at this time would be connection of the several businesses around the hospital, as well as redirection of the library and connection of the Victoria and Albert Bed and Breakfast. George Lewis of Johnston Memorial Hospital stated that their application was in front of the Hospital Administrator for signature and should be ready within the next few days. It was also noted that there would be a way to connect the branch office at 227 West Main Street to the Main hospital if both were provided with connections. As a follow-up to the last meeting, Jay Cox discussed revision of the graduated scale that is being used for monthly service charges in order to increase total monthly revenues. This is as follows: Current and Proposed Rate Structures
* With the Current Schedule [only] there is an additional $3.00 per month charge per IP address Jay stated that the application of rates as contained in Revision 1, above, would increase monthly revenues from $1,554 to $1,757. The primary differences between Revision 1 and Revision 2, above, were changes made in the gradation of the rates, and underlined in the schedule shown, in order to mitigate the apparent great difference between connection of 5 and 6 computers as shown in Revision 1. Under Revision 1, five computers would result in a monthly bill of $90, while a sixth computer would jump the user up to $ 150 per month; a severe increase. Jay Cox agreed to examine the differences between Revision 1 and Revision 2 to determine if any other problems were encountered in the implementation of the rate structure as shown in Revision 2. Dr. Moore briefly discussed an idea in regard to the use of poles that exist on the Norfolk-Southern Railroad right of way for some future EVA extensions. Dr. Moore stated that he and Jack White had discussed the matter previously and that Jack White is following up on this idea with the Norfolk Southern Railway Company. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next scheduled meeting of the Electronic Village of Abingdon is set for January 28, 1998 at 12:00 noon at the Johnston Memorial Hospital Cafeteria. Respectfully Submitted,
Albert C. Bradley, Secretary
