MINUTES
18 March 1996
A scheduled meeting of the Electronic Village of Abingdon Committee was held in the lower meeting room of the Town of Abingdon Municipal Building at 7:30 P. M. on 18 March 1996. Dr. F. H. Moore, Jr. presided. Those present included:
Dr. Moore opened the meeting. Michael Hayter asked about the proposed grand opening. Dr. Moore stated that he had an agenda for this event on 20 March 1996 and that a videoconference with Congressman Boucher was included along with comments by himself, Gary Whittington of Sprint, Jay Cox of NetAccess and a demonstration of E V A by Jay Cox and Ray Millsap.
Problems with the services to the Coomes Recreation Center, Highlands Union Bank and the County Administrator’s Office were discussed. It was thought that at least the first two had been repaired. All other sites were reported to be working well.
Jay Cox reported that already there had been over 100 people in attendance at classes held at Virginia Highlands Community College and the Washington County Public Library. This was thought to indicate a high level of interest in this short period of time. Also Jay reported that Ray Millsap and Rachel Fowlkes had distributed packets for the various sites containing materials on schedules, questionnaires and sign-in sheets. Mike Hylton noted that the Contents Committee was working very hard at the Coomes Recreation Center to create a desirable presence for E V A and that this work was going well.
Randy Boyd reminded us of the Information Technology session sponsored by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and scheduled for 9:00 AM to Noon on 23 March.
Dr. Moore reported that on his recent trip to Colorado, he had stopped in Telluride at the offices of InfoZone, a similar organization begun in 1993. Dr. Moore had also viewed some of their public access sites at a bank, the public library, middle school and their own offices.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Albert C. Bradley, Secretary
