The minutes of the 30 August 2000 meeting were approved as presented. The next item for review was the status of new connections, including:
The Trooper’s Alley extension to the Abingdon Fire Department at 316 Park Street is nearing completion. The fiber is in place and we are awaiting the installation of the correct equipment at the Fire Department for operation. The equipment should be installed the week of 2 – 6 October. The extension to the proposed new Police Department and recreation complex is underway, but no visible progress has been made there. Congressman Boucher’s 18 September 2000 Internet Conference was discussed. Many of the members present stated that this had demonstrated how far we had come since 1995. There followed some discussion of where and how we wished to proceed with the EVA project. Mapping a future for EVA will be necessary. A fiber optic ring was originally envisioned around the Town, but that was left undefined. Further discussion ensued as to our ability to tie together various types of delivery systems including fiber, satellite and wireless capabilities to make necessary extensions and how to finance these undertakings. There was some discussion of the Bristol Virginia Utilities Board and their $ 3 million fiber optic project underway in Bristol. This could be tied to our own project at some future date since BVUB has facilities nearby. A discussion of a videotape presentation of EVA followed and how to accomplish that. The next EVA
meeting will be held on the normal last Wednesday meeting date which falls on
25 October, 2000.There being no
further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:55 PM. Respectfully Submitted, Albert C. Bradley, Secretary | ||||||||||||||
