The Browning & Lamie application from the previous meeting was discussed.  Al Bradley explained that we had refunded their deposit until such time as more permanent connections were available on North Valley Street.  Mathew Matt noted that the Shortridge and Shortridge law office would be connected in the near future and that materials for this drop were recently obtained.

David Taverner stated that Sprint was in the process of documenting the fiber connections at the Central Office on Valley Street, at Highlands Union Bank and at Johnston Memorial Hospital for the purpose of turning over the management of EVA to the Town.  This work, including the addition of a 10/100 MBS switch, is nearly complete and will resolve the ‘Awaiting equipment at C. O.’ notes in the status column above.  This would ultimately allow more autonomy on the Town’s part to manage the development of EVA.

Jay Cox discussed the construction of a fiber route from Abingdon to Bristol.  This proposed route probably will be completed in the third quarter.  The fiber route will include drops along the way at the West End of Town and other fixed stations between Abingdon and the service area of the Bristol Electric System.

Other items discussed included Jean Luker’s mention of a proposed broad bandwidth ‘pipe’ to the Internet that is under study by Sprint and which is the result of the huge demand for Internet traffic from this area.  Jay Cox also made note of some measures that NetAccess is taking in the Blacksburg area to focus and to speed up connectivity there by routing local messages on a direct route rather than passing them through the Internet.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 2:08 PM.

                                                                             Respectfully Submitted,
