The Browning & Lamie application was discussed and the proposed connection analyzed.

E V A has existing services on several sides of this location including the Washington County Public Library and Johnston Memorial Hospital.  Al Bradley discussed the matter of extending a service to Browning and Lamie through JMH via Abingdon Radiology with George Lewis of Johnston Memorial Hospital and Mr. Lewis indicated he had no immediate objections but wished to confer with the hospital’s networking consultants before agreeing outright.  The Appalachian Sustainable Development connection has been installed, but we are awaiting Sprint’s acceptance of this connection from the subcontractor.  CRG and Frodo’s applications are simple extensions from existing services.  The service for Donovan Duff is underway but incomplete at this time.

Jeff Webb of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center explained that the Center had very recently secured State funding for e-commerce activities and that they would be attempting some projects to encourage e-commerce in the area.  Guido Ontaneda mentioned that in his employment with the KVAT Co. here, there had been discussion of an online supermarket and that they may well be interested in looking into this and other e-commerce development through the SWVHEC.  Other activities envisioned by SWVHEC included servers for hosting web pages for other such activities related to e-commerce businesses and that could be employed as extensions of existing businesses into e-commerce ventures.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:38 PM.
